Who needs a root canal?

The pulp is deep inside your tooth and consists of blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue. When an infection strikes, it endangers the integrity of that tooth and surrounding teeth. You may think a root canal will be painful, but it alleviates the pain you’re experiencing.

Then she seals the tooth, and the root canal is complete.

Following a root canal, Dr. Tehrani or Dr. Yi place a crown, or prosthetic cap, over the tooth to protect it and restore function and appearance.

How should I care for a tooth after a root canal?

Immediately following a root canal, you may have slight soreness for a few days, but the severe pain of the infection should be resolved. Over-the-counter pain medications can help soothe any immediate pain.

Long-term care for a root canal is no different than the basic oral hygiene you perform on your other teeth. With twice-a-day brushing, daily flossing, and regular professional cleanings, your root canal can last a lifetime.
